LPF Site 4 - Moorhead Urban Orchard

Longspur's Site 4, the City of Moorhead's first "Urban Orchard," is located at 802 3rd Street South, Moorhead, MN, and consists of a 360° planting of fruit trees and edible plants around the residence proper. The site is privately owned, but public access is allowed and encouraged. Planning the site began in middle 2016 and was facilitated by a partnership between LPF and Ugly Food of the North. A Northwest Regional Sustainable Partnership Grant from the University of Minnesota Extension Service provided funding for planting. The project was completed in the summer of 2018 with edible fruit coming from plum and apples trees that summer!  Want to start your own urban orchard? Take a look at the LPF/UFotN toolkit here!

The Longspur Prairie Fund is dedicated to fostering the experiences, insights, and pleasures found in the native landscapes of the Red River Valley by way of advocacy, education, and conservation.

We respect farmers, hunters, business owners, their properties, and their communities. We protect native plants, animals, habitats, and their ecologies. We teach the wisdom of the prairie through the arts and sciences.

We restore native landscapes and preserve them for all time.
